I thought this video was strangely beautiful. I don't know if I would personally choose to handle contractions like this, I think one flash of the camera and I would have lost it, but I am impressed with her. It just goes to show that there are as many ways to birth as there are women and babies. It is neat to watch how she handles the contractions, you can tell she is pretty far along because of how long they are. I wonder if they would let you do this in the hospital :)
Um... but what is up with the room she is in?

now that's a new way to handle labor!!! all i can say is that my labor experience was VERY different, and far less serene than this lady's! power to her though!
Extra thought that I just thought of:
When my midwife was helping me find techniques to help me relax and release in order to handle contractions, I discovered that I am a very auditory person and that I responded better to sounds more than images. I ended up whistling and clicking my tongue a lot during contractions. Strange I know, but it worked. I bet this woman is very auditory too. Maybe next time I'll have to turn my whistles into a full blown song. Jon better start practicing his harmonica!
Wow, you can barely even tell she's in pain! Good luck with that harmonica, Jon. :-)
Wow---that's one way to do it....and the song was beautiful. Thanks for sharing this.
And I agree---that is one of the strangest decorated rooms I've seen--is that a cat on the wall?
It's been a whole month since I had my computer and my Internet set up...so I want you to know that I almost skipped by this entry for two reasons: One, I have been on your blog just enjoying all your comments this entire morning, and it is now 4:00 in the afternoon ")...and Two, It sounded and looked like it might be a little weird...but it was beautiful. I think this lady was birthing in her little girl's room for the moment...what a family bond...unusual, but impressive...Also her little girls had such empowered feminine expressions of love and bonding with their mommy on their little faces. I am touched deeply, but also a little...confused about how this intimate moment affects a little girl...wow.Thanks for posting this.
Love,
Mommy T.
