We have a mouse (mice?) in our house! About two days ago I noticed some suspisous looking black droppings on the counter, and then the next day saw that our big bag of oatmeal (that was sitting on the floor) had a hole chewed into it. Then yesterday I saw the mouse (mice?) two times, one ran under the door of the utility closet and the other ran behind the stove! Those both happen to be places where we still have holes in the wall leading down to the basement (and hence outside). We even heard them in the wall the other day! YUCK!!!!!!!!! I guess it is just to be expected though when you live across the street from the mountains and your backyard is a field. I am sure we are going to have many more animal encounters (deer, rabbits, coyotes, and other varmints) at this house.
Jon wants to trap the mouse/mice as humanely as possible. I am all for squashing them. But to appease my husband I am going to at least make an effort to find a humane way of trapping them. Then I'll taken them for a ride up the canyon and let them take their chances with the hawks. Any tips for catching mice? Too bad this wouldn't work!

Yuck! I hate mice. We get them every now and then. Good luck!
Sticky mouse pads work great, but I'm not sure you could let them go after they were stuck. I believe Wallmart has a mouse hotel that lets them in but not out. All I can say, is get rid of them ASAP. Mice can propogate at the rate of over a hundred babies/year. They are a disaster on food storage and furniture (they will nest in it and shred the stuffing out of chairs, couches, etc.)
Thanks to my mouse infested apartment on my mission I am a bit of a mouse catching expert. WE caught over 200 mice in 2 months., ICK! Sticky traps work great and are easy to dispose of but the mouse won't live or be easy to release. There are "live traps" available that work well and allow you to release the mouse later (the mice are dumb enough to go in there if you put peanut butter inside, it works better than cheese does) However, I was never brave enough to "release" the live mouse. Mice of any size seriously creep me out. Owning a cat is a fantastic mouse deterrant too. I still own a cat that my room mates purchased to solve a mouse problem at our condo but somehow the cat became mine. Some told me if a cat is on the premises the mice will stay away, I'm not sure if that is true but the "theory" works for me and every since I owned a kitty, I haven't encountered a mouse in my house.
Um, this mouse trap that you have pictured works great, I think...we trapped alot of little red, yellow, blue and green mice in ours, over the years ")
Really, though, don't you think the mice would rather have a fighting chance with the hawks? I don't know, though...population control is important in keeping an ecological balance...Which do you think is worse, the hawks (You could get one of those...you know how to handle them...) or a kitty, to which I know you are allergic...hmmmm.
Love,
Mommy T.
