Asher learned how to clap his hands this week! I don't think anyone even taught it to him, he just figured it out himself. Genuis I tell you, pure genius. He did it non-stop for a couple of days and then must have gotten bored of it, because I haven't been able to get him to clap at all the last few days.
He also did his FIRST SIGN, on purpose, this week. For the last few weeks I've been trying to teach him the sign for "more" (touching the tips of your pinched fingers together), but I didn't think he was even paying attention. THEN, last week when I was feeding him dinner he made the usual grunting noise that means "Hey Mom, give me MORE!" and then followed it up by clapping his hands together. I wasn't sure if he was just clapping or if he was signing, but he did it again and again. I was SO excited. I think I have a genius baby. Here is a video of him, crawling, eating grapes (don't worry I took the skins off and smooshed them) and signing "more". Oh, and did I mention he has learned how to throw tantrums.

yea!!!! how exciting for you! there's a long window there where you're doing the signs and not getting anything in return and then they catch on quickly, "oh, if i do the sign" i get things i want. our firsts with claire were more, nurse, food, and over time we added literally about a hundred more. keep it up, it's so rewarding, and you'll find him talking (verbally) almost a year before other kids his age. it's amazing--i'm a huge baby sign mama!!! let me know if you need some good book recommendations.
He IS a genius! Asher for president!! :)

i AM SPEECHLESS ")Heather, that is so awesome...he is definitely ready for "finger-play mania" Ha!Try stuff for the season...Once there was a snowman"...or start out really simple with Pat-a-cake...put your hands over his to move him through the motions ") how fun! Other first signs: "drink", "up", "down", "yes please", "no thankyou" (Head nod or head shake, paired with those words)..."right here" (pointing to a spot on his high chair tray to ask for something he wants)and...of course "bye-bye" Love you!Mommy T.
