Help all you experienced moms out there! I don't know what to do! This past week my adorable nursling has turned into a biter. Lately almost every time I nurse him he eats for awhile and then stops, clamps his gums down (which luckily do not have teeth in them yet) and pulls! Ouch! It hurts and I don't know how to get him to stop. I didn't think I'd have to worry about this till he got teeth. The hardest part is that he thinks it is really funny and when ever I howl he just smiles at me and goes "ha" (imagine a very breathy short laugh). HELP!!!!!!!!!

I've heard that biting can be caused by over-active let down- they're trying to stop the flow. I don't know if that's an issue for you or not, but it might be it.
I've heard that bringing the baby close to you instead of pulling him away. If you block the flow of air with your breast, he'll unlatch to breathe and won't pull on your nipple. Perhaps that'll work?
Of course, you can always call your local LLL leader- free advice! llli.org
I think the reaction is kind of like positive reinforcement. So as hard as it is, try not to react sharply or in a way that seems exciting to him. My mom also says to give them a good pop on the cheek, and they'll never do it again (she nursed 9 kids) but I don't know if I could do that! GL!
